Honda XR300L Review: The Ultimate Adventure Bike You’ll Love

A first look based on published reports. Last updated: 6 October 2026.

Most people who dream of off-road riding hit the same wall: the bikes that look the part are usually heavy, tall and expensive. The Honda XR300L is Honda’s new dual-sport for India, and the company says it is meant for riders who are new to off-road riding or have only just started.

A quick note on what this article is. It is a first look, not a ride review, because the bike has not gone on sale in India yet. It draws on Honda’s own statements, Indian motoring reports and the South American version that is already on sale. Anything that is unconfirmed is labelled as such.

Key highlights

  • Lightweight Adventure Bike: Honda XR300L is designed as a lightweight dual-sport motorcycle suitable for both city commuting and off-road riding.
  • 293.5cc Engine: The bike is expected to offer smooth performance with strong low-end torque, making it comfortable for everyday and trail riding.
  • Off-Road Ready: It features 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels, long-travel suspension, and high ground clearance for rough terrain.
  • Expected India Launch: The XR300L is expected to arrive in India around late 2026, with an estimated price of approximately ₹2 lakh–₹2.20 lakh, though Honda has not officially confirmed these details.

Honda XR300L at a glance

  •     What it is: a lightweight dual-sport that Honda says balances off-road ability with everyday usability. Honda unveiled it in India on         24 July 2026, and it will be manufactured in India.
  •     Engine: a 293.5 cc single-cylinder unit shared with the CB300F.
  •     Launch: no official date yet. Auto car India expects November 2026.
  •     Price: not announced. Estimates range from about ₹1.80 lakh to ₹2.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
  •     Sibling: the XR300 Rally, a more touring-focused bike on the same basic hardware.

Design and ergonomics

Honda describes the Honda XR300L as the simpler of its two new dual-sports, with reduced bodywork that keeps weight down. Reports describe a compact headlight cowl, a high-mounted front fender, spoke wheels and a slim fuel tank. The look is deliberately plain, which suits a bike meant for trails and daily riding. The Rally, by contrast, gets Dakar-inspired bodywork and a taller windscreen.

Seat height is worth watching. Honda has not published an official India figure. The Argentine version is listed at 890 mm, while one Indian listing (91wheels) gives 830 mm. It is not clear whether that 60 mm gap reflects a different India-spec bike or just an unofficial listing, so shorter riders should wait for Honda’s number and sit on the bike before deciding.

On weight, Honda has not announced an India figure either. The Argentine bike is listed at 153 kg ready to ride.

Engine and performance

Honda has not disclosed performance figures for the India-spec bike. Reports agree that it shares the 293.5 cc engine from the CB300F, and the numbers quoted so far are close but not identical:

  •     Auto car India (launch report): around 24.5 hp and 25.9 Nm, in line with the CB300F.
  •     Auto car India (model page): likely 24.3 hp at 7,500 rpm and 26.5 Nm at 5,750 rpm, matching the Argentine bike.
  •     91wheels: 26.9 bhp and 26.6 Nm, with a 6-speed gearbox.

Roughly speaking, that is 24 to 27 hp and about 26 Nm. These are modest numbers by adventure-bike standards, so the Honda XR300L reads as a trail-friendly all-rounder rather than a performance machine. How it actually feels, including throttle response, vibration and highway manners, can only be judged after a proper ride.

No mileage figure appeared in the reports reviewed for this article. One more detail: the Brazil-spec bike is flex-fuel compatible, but Honda has not confirmed whether the India-spec version will be.

Suspension, wheels and brakes

The India-spec bike is reported to use a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel combination, the classic dual-sport setup. Honda says both new models get long-travel suspension, a gas-charged Pro-Link rear mono shock, and disc brakes at both ends.

Exact India suspension travel is not confirmed. On the South American bike, rear travel is listed at 227 mm, while front travel appears as 221 mm in one report and 245 mm in another, so even the bike already on sale has inconsistent published figures. For India, 91wheels lists 244 mm of ground clearance and a 7.8-litre fuel tank, but these are unofficial. With mileage unpublished, real-world range is still unknown.

Features and rider aids

Both the Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally are reported to get switchable dual-channel ABS and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Honda’s traction control. The XR300L uses an LCD instrument console. Unlike the Rally, it does not get Road Sync smartphone connectivity, and Zig Wheels says it has no TFT display either.

The Argentine bike has full LED lighting and a fully digital dashboard. Lighting for the India-spec bike has not been confirmed.

Honda XR300L vs XR300 Rally

The two bikes are closely related. They share the same engine, frame and 21/18-inch spoke wheels. The differences are in positioning and equipment:

  Honda XR300L Honda XR300 Rally
Positioning Lightweight dual-sport for new off-road riders Adventure touring with rally-inspired styling
Bodywork Reduced, simpler Dakar-inspired, taller windscreen
Connectivity No Road Sync Honda Road Sync
Expected price (Auto car India) ₹2.00 to ₹2.10 lakh ₹2.20 to ₹2.30 lakh

Choose the Honda XR300L if you want a simpler, lighter-looking bike for trails and daily riding. Choose the Rally if you want more wind protection and smartphone connectivity for longer touring days.

Who are the rivals?

This is not settled yet. Zig Wheels names the Hero X pulse 200 4V and the Kawasaki KLX 230 as the closest rivals, but the same page’s FAQ lists different bikes, including the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Yamaha R15 V4. That mismatch suggests rival lists are still guesswork. A fair comparison will have to wait for official specs and prices, so check current figures for any rival you are considering.

Honda XR300L price and launch

Honda has not announced a launch date or price. The estimates below come from different publications and are ex-showroom.

Source Expected launch Estimated price
Honda (official) Not announced Not announced
Auto car India November 2026 ₹2.00 to ₹2.10 lakh (news report); ₹2.00 to ₹2.20 lakh (model page)
Zig Wheels December 2026 About ₹1.80 lakh
91wheels (updated 24 July 2026) 22 January 2027 About ₹2.70 lakh

Separately, Car HP reported on 20 August 2026 that unofficial bookings had started at some Honda Big Wing dealerships for ₹5,000, with deliveries expected between December 2026 and January 2027. These bookings are unofficial, so confirm with a dealer before paying anything.

  •     Switchable dual-channel ABS and HSTC traction control
  •     Manufactured in India; expected to cost less than the Rally
  •     Argentine version is listed at a light 153 kg

Cons and unknowns

  •     No Road Sync smartphone connectivity, and reportedly no TFT display
  •     India price, launch date and most India-spec numbers are unconfirmed
  •     No mileage figure published yet
  •     Real-world performance, comfort and reliability cannot be judged until it is ridden

Final verdict: is the Honda XR300L worth waiting for?

If you want a first off-road bike that doesn’t intimidate you, the Honda XR300L looks like the right idea on paper: a light and simple bike with proper dual-sport hardware and sensible rider aids. If you want a windscreen and phone connectivity for touring, look at the Honda XR300 Rally instead. If budget is tight, the spread between estimates, roughly ₹0.90 lakh between the lowest and highest, is a good reason to wait.

The honest answer: it deserves a spot on your shortlist, but not a final decision yet. Before committing, wait for Honda’s official price and India specifications, and take a test ride.
